Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 25, 2026. How we handle your information, in plain words.

Thank you for being here. Learn True Self is a place for real stories about meeting Jesus, and we want you to feel safe here. This policy explains, in plain words, what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Learn True Self (learntrueself.com) is the home of the podcast "Learn True Self: That Come To Jesus Moment!", hosted by Ashley James. The site is run by Ashley James, doing business as "Learn True Self" ("we", "us"), based in Washington State, USA.

  • Operator: Ashley James, sole proprietor, doing business as Learn True Self
  • Location: Washington State, USA. Mailing address: Ashley James, d/b/a Learn True Self, 14241 NE Woodinville-Duvall Rd #342, Woodinville, WA 98072
  • Email: support@learntrueself.com

For the GDPR and UK GDPR, we are the "controller" of the personal information described here. We are a small ministry based in the United States and we do not target our services to people in the EU or UK, so we have not appointed an EU or UK representative. You can still use your rights below, and we will answer any request sent to support@learntrueself.com.

The short version

  • We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never will.
  • Analytics only turns on if you say yes. Saying no changes nothing about how the site works for you.
  • We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals automatically.
  • We collect only what we need to run the show, answer you, and thank our supporters.
  • You can ask to see, fix, or delete your information at any time by writing to support@learntrueself.com.

What we collect and why

When you simply visit

  • Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device and the pages you request. Our web server and our security provider (Cloudflare) process this to deliver pages and protect the site from attacks. Why: legitimate interests in running a secure site.
  • Analytics (only with your consent). If you click "Accept", Google Analytics 4 measures visits, pages viewed, rough location (city or country), device type and how you found us. This helps us see how our testimonies reach people. Why: your consent. If you click "No thanks", or your browser sends a GPC signal, analytics never loads.

When you leave a comment

Your name, email, website (optional), comment text, IP address and browser details. Your email is never shown publicly. Comments may be checked for spam and approved by hand. Why: legitimate interests in running a respectful conversation, and your choice to take part. If you tick the box to save your details, WordPress stores them in cookies on your device.

When you contact us

Your name, email, the topic you choose and whatever you tell us (for example your message, a link to your church or social page, and how you heard about us). We use the Contact page's spam protection (a hidden field, a limit on how often it can be used, and Cloudflare Turnstile). We receive your message by email and keep a private copy in the site's admin area, which only our team can open. We do not store your IP address with your message. Why: to answer you (legitimate interests, or steps toward an agreement you asked for).

When you send a crypto gift

If you use our gift form after sending cryptocurrency, we receive the network you used, the transaction hash, and (only if you choose) your name and email. The form details are emailed to support@learntrueself.com and kept in our site's private admin area so we can confirm and thank you. Why: legitimate interests in confirming and acknowledging gifts, and keeping accurate records.

Please know that blockchain transactions are public by design. Your wallet address, the amount and the time are visible to anyone on the blockchain and can never be erased by us or anyone else. We never ask for, and you should never send us, a private key or seed phrase.

When you send a gift with PayPal or Buy Me a Coffee

If you choose to give through PayPal or Buy Me a Coffee, you are taken to their service to complete your gift. They collect and process your payment details, such as your name, email, card or account information and the amount. We never see or store your card number or bank details. They tell us about your gift (usually your name, email address, the amount, the date and any message you leave) so we can say thank you and keep accurate records. Those companies use their own payment partners and follow their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read. Why: your choice to give, and our legitimate interests in thanking supporters and keeping financial records.

When you apply or book as a podcast guest

Guest booking is not open yet. When it opens, you may be asked to book through a scheduling tool, which acts as our service provider. We will name it on this page before it goes live. It may collect your name, email, phone number, a headshot, your answers to our intake questions (which can include parts of your faith story) and your scheduling details. Your faith story is religious information, which some laws call "sensitive". We only use it with your explicit consent, to prepare and produce your episode. Why: your consent, and steps toward the guest agreement.

When you email us

If you write to support@learntrueself.com, your message and email address reach us through Cloudflare Email Routing, which forwards it to a private inbox that only our team can read. We keep it to reply to you and for our records (see "How long we keep it"). If you use the form on our Contact page, we receive the same details and keep a private copy in the site's admin area.

We may move to a different email provider in the future. If we do, we will update this policy.

Newsletter

We do not currently run a newsletter signup on this site. If we add one, we will update this policy before it goes live and only send emails to people who opt in.

Security check (Cloudflare Turnstile)

Our forms and login use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It checks browser and device signals without tracking you across sites. Why: legitimate interests in keeping out spam and abuse.

Podcast and video embeds

Episode pages may show a YouTube video (in YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) and links to podcast players such as Libsyn, Apple Podcasts or Spotify. When you press play or open those players, that company may collect data under its own privacy policy.

Accounts

Only our team has logins. WordPress sets login cookies, and we use two-factor authentication to protect admin accounts.

Cookies

We keep cookies to a minimum. Here is every cookie the site sets. You can change your choice any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. See our Cookie Policy for details.

We do not collect health information

We do not collect health information. Our forms and guest intake never ask about your health, and we ask guests not to send medical details. If any reaches us by accident, we delete it.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We only pass information to trusted service providers who help us run the site, under contracts that limit how they use it:

  • Vultr (web hosting, servers in the United States)
  • Cloudflare (DNS, security, Turnstile, email routing)
  • Google (Google Analytics 4, only with consent; YouTube embeds)
  • PayPal and Buy Me a Coffee (only if you choose to give through them)
  • Our guest booking tool (only once guest booking opens; we will name it here first)
  • Libsyn and podcast apps (podcast hosting and players)

We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or if the ministry or business is ever transferred (we would tell you first).

International transfers

We are based in the United States and our servers are in the United States. If you visit from the EU, UK, Switzerland or elsewhere, your information is transferred to the US. Where required, we rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (and its UK and Swiss extensions) for providers certified under it, and on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (and the UK Addendum) with our providers.

How long we keep it

  • Cookie choice: 6 months, then we ask again.
  • Analytics data: kept in Google Analytics for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Comments: as long as the comment is published. Delete requests are honored.
  • Contact emails: up to 3 years, unless we need them longer for a reason you would expect.
  • Crypto gift records: up to 7 years for our financial records. Blockchain data itself is permanent and outside our control.
  • Gift records from PayPal and Buy Me a Coffee: up to 7 years for our financial records. PayPal and Buy Me a Coffee keep their own records under their own policies.
  • Guest applications and bookings: up to 2 years if you are not booked. For published episodes, as long as the episode is available, plus your release records.
  • Server logs: up to 30 days. Site backups: 7 days, then overwritten.

How we protect it

We use HTTPS everywhere, a firewall and Cloudflare protection, two-factor login for admins, limited staff access, private admin-only records, and nightly backups kept for 7 days. No system is perfect, but we take care of your information as if it were our own family's. If a breach ever affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy (access and portability),
  • correct anything that is wrong,
  • delete your information,
  • stop or limit how we use it, or object to our legitimate-interest uses,
  • withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect what we did before),
  • not be subject to decisions made solely by automated means (we do not make any).

Just write to support@learntrueself.com. We may need to confirm it is really you. We will reply within 30 days (45 days for US state law requests, and we will tell you if we need more time as the law allows). There is no charge. You can also use an authorized agent.

Europe and the UK (GDPR and UK GDPR)

Our lawful bases are listed above: consent, legitimate interests, steps toward an agreement, and legal obligations. You have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). In the EU you can find yours at edpb.europa.eu. We would love the chance to help first, though.

California (CCPA/CPRA) and other US states

In the last 12 months we have collected these categories: identifiers (name, email, IP address), internet activity (pages viewed, with consent for analytics), approximate location, commercial information (crypto gift records), audio and visual information (guest headshots and recordings), and sensitive information you choose to share as a guest (religious beliefs). We use them only for the purposes in this policy.

  • We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use sensitive information to infer things about you.
  • We honor Global Privacy Control as a valid opt-out signal.
  • You have the right to know, delete, correct and opt out, and we will never discriminate against you for using your rights.
  • See Your Privacy Choices.

Other US states

Residents of Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas, Oregon and other states with privacy laws have similar rights, including the right to appeal if we decline a request. To appeal, reply to our decision with "Appeal" in the subject. If we still decline, you can contact your state Attorney General.

Canada, Brazil, Australia and elsewhere

Under Canada's PIPEDA, Brazil's LGPD, Australia's Privacy Act and similar laws, you have the rights above. You may also complain to your local privacy regulator, such as the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Brazil's ANPD or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Children

This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK). If you believe a child has given us information, please write to us and we will delete it. Guests under 18 may only take part with a parent's or guardian's written consent.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the change is important, we will make it clear on the site.
